According to him, Penza farmers learned about the new trend on an Chuvashia expo.
“We peel the skin when eating the potatoes. In ordinary potatoes, all useful antioxidants are stored in the skin. But nowadays, the agrarians have created new potato varieties that contain antioxidants in the flesh instead, and the flesh turns out to be colored as purple,” Andrei Burlakov said during the meeting session of the regional government on Tuesday, March 10.
The minister noted that such potatoes would be very unusual for the majority.
“We plan to start cultivating purple potatoes this year, at least, in order to get the seeding material,” he said.
Later on, trendy purple potatoes will be made available for customers, Andrei Burlakov added.
