The project was completed as part of the import replacement program, and the subprogram of the National Technological Base complex, titled “Creation and Management of New-Generation Diesel Engines and Components in Russia.”
It aims to replace the Swiss TPS48 turbochargers that are used in two-unit arrays for 8CHN21/21 high-speed diesel locomotive engines.
The new Penza-made turbochargers seek to further reduce the fuel consumption of the diesel engines at a lower cost compared to the Swiss analogues.
The development testing of the new turbochargers by “Uralsky Diesel-Motorny Zavod” (UDMZ) as part of 8CHN21/21 engines and on TGM6D and TEM9 locomotive equipment are planned in the nearest future.
The company has plans to create four variants to suit every UDMZ commercial engine under 1,200 kW.
The new development will remove the dependency on foreign equipment and serve as an example of import replacement in high-tech industry, says the “Penzadieselmash” press service.
