Penza, 19 October 2015. PenzaNews. The overall harvest of sunflower seed in the Penza region reached 258,700 tons, as of Monday, October 19.

This is a record-breaking figure for the region, the press service of the regional Ministry of Agriculture told PenzaNews agency.

“The average sunflower seed yield in the region is 15.4 quintals per hectare, the largest in the whole Volga Federal District. The largest yield in the Penza region (29 quintals per hectare) was registered in the Issa area, as well as in the Bashmakovo and Nizhny Lomov areas (24 quintals per hectare), and in the Pachelma area (23 quintals per hectare),” they clarified.

The harvest is nearing the end, with only 12,500 hectares left to work on, the ministry added.
