The Moscow region took the lead with 11% of the country’s total volume of confectionary production, followed by St. Petersburg with 7.1%, Moscow city with 7%, and the Kemerovo region with 4.1%.

The Penza region was placed on the fifth position with 3.5%.

In a comment on the research by TSIKR, Ilya Issakov, board chairman of the Penza Confectionary Workers Union cluster, general director of the Bekovo Food Factory, stressed that Penza facilities manage to maintain and increase their production volumes amidst the general decrease.

“There is a very big concentration of confectionary producers in our region. We continue to develop cooperation through the confectionary cluster that has been operational since 2011. Confectionary products from the Penza region is not just consumed internally but also shipped to dozens of Russian regions,” he pointed out.

The active promotion of Penza producers helps a lot, Ilya Issakov added.

“The companies of the Penza Confectionary Workers Union cluster regularly take part in Russian and international trade shows such as Prodexpo and WorldFood,” he explained.

According to him, in a move to expand their export, companies of the Penza cluster will be taking part in the 2016 ISM food fair in Cologne, Germany, that will be held in February.

“The steadily active position of the heads of Penza region confectionary producers in terms of expansion, internal and foreign promotion, and cluster-wide joint projects paves the way for expanding confectionary production in the region and remaining in the top in Russian production ratings,” Ilya Issakov concluded.
