“During the inspection of factory workshops, the regional head was invited to witness the high quality of the product — they demonstrated a waterproof match burning in a glass of water,” the press service of the government of the Penza region told PenzaNews.

“Pobeda” factory goes back to 1858, when a match factory in Verkhny Lomov was constructed. Production was launched in 1901 and lasted until the nationalization in 1918. During the Soviet period the factory changed not only the owner, but also the name — to “Pobeda,” in 1992 — to “Fakel.” In 2000, based on the existing production facilities, the company was re-established under the name of the Soviet period.

At present, the factory produces gas, fireplace, waterproof and hunting matches. The volume of production amounts to 3.5 million box of matches a day. The company employs more than 400 people.
