Governor: Large Penza enterprises started to dismiss workers

Penza, 1 June 2020. PenzaNews. Large enterprises operating in Penza region began to dismiss employees against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic. This was stated by Governor Ivan Belozertsev.

"There is evidence that large enterprises have begun to downsize their employees gradually. [...] Under condition of this difficult time, they have to adjust and resort to dismissal," he said during a video conference on Monday, June 1.
The head of the region noted that "this is unacceptable".
At the same time, Ivan Belozertsev admitted that "business resorts to dismissal not because it wants to but because it has to".
In addition, during the meeting the Governor drew attention to the facts of shadow employment, in particular in the trade sector, which were revealed when citizens applied for unemployment benefits.
According to the Governor, this indicates that the authorities of the region "had failed to do the full amount of work in previous years".
