Penza, 28 October 2016. PenzaNews. Increase of the cost of breakfast and lunch at Penza schools is inadvisable, despite the continuing rise in food prices, as it may lead to refusing of a part of pupils from eating in educational institutions. This opinion was expressed by the head of the city education department Yuri Golodyaev during the 27th regular session of the City Duma on Friday, October 28.

“As of January 1 [2016], we were almost approaching 100% rate. Now the prices “ran” ahead again and we, of course, are lagging behind. We can increase the cost of food but in this case not all the kids will eat at schools,” he said.

Yuri Golodyaev added that the estimated cost of lunch and breakfast, which varies depending on the age of pupils, given rising food prices would grow by 5-20 rubles.

“We understand that if we increase the cost of food from 70 to 90 rubles for senior pupils, that is pupils over 11, we will get a sharp decline in the number of those eating,” the head of the Penza education department stressed.

He noted that in general all recommended standards of calorific capacity are met in Penza schools, however, if a set meal is not enough for a child, they may use the buffet.
