Wearing of hijab prohibited in 20 schools of Penza

Penza, 6 May 2019. PenzaNews. Outright ban on students' wearing religious clothes, including hijabs, special hats, clothes with special attributes or symbols, was introduced in 20 schools of Penza at the request of the Prosecutor's Office of the Oktyabrsky district.

According to senior assistant of the regional prosecutor for media relations Svetlana Artamonova, a direct ban on wearing such clothes was not imposed in those educational organizations before but the current federal legislation consolidates the principle of secular education.
"In order to comply with the fundamental principles of countering extremist activity, and protect the rights and freedoms of minors, the district prosecutor [Alexey Popov] submitted requests to the directors of these schools, which were considered and satisfied. Regulations on the requirements for the appearance of school pupils were brought into line with the requirements of the legislation. Twelve officials were brought to disciplinary responsibility," she added.
