On Tuesday morning, September 12, the works entered the active phase. A caterpillar excavator was used at the place. The building was demolished by an impact method – first, wooden structures were destroyed with the help of the bucket. The last thing to be razed to the ground was a brick annexe.

Then it was workers' turn, who carefully picked out whole bricks out of the pile, cleaned them from residues of cement mixture and put in a heap.

It is expected that in the near future the territory will be put in order.

The demolished house remained one of the few wooden buildings at the area with which Penza old-timers associated the centre of a 20th century city. The houses were often on fire here in recent years. One of the fires occurred in 2014 – right in house No. 72.

There are still dwellers in the immediate vicinity of the square where the traffic lights tree, which is famous far outside Penza, is located – a small single-storey house stands near the demolished one. Next to the building, one can see a Volga car without a registration number and children toys scattered on the ground.

In general, the area between Suvorova street and the railway station Penza-I was freed from dilapidated and emergency housing.

Previously, the public organization "Berkut" advanced the initiative to create a public garden named after Alexander Suvorov at the place where the demolished houses had been located, and later it was proposed to dedicate the green area to the 100th anniversary of Penza football, which would be celebrated in 2018.

In the meantime, the square is mostly used as a passageway between Suvorova street and the railway station. Smokers of the Zheleznodorozhny college also spend much time there, which is indicated by many cigarette butts on the ground.
