Penza, 9 September 2011. PenzaNews. The driver of the car "Lada Kalina" brought down an elk who was running across the road on 18th kilometer of the high way "Penza – Tambov" on Wednesday, on September, 7th.

As the result of collision with a wild animal the motor vehicle got serious mechanical damages, however the driver wasn't hurt.

According to the head of the department of protection, control and regulation of use of fauna of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Penza region Nikolay Sadomov, judging by the size the elk weight more than 200 kg and was about 2.5 years old.

Nikolay Sadomov said that the exact reason why the elk decided to cross the road is unknown.

He said: "Elks usually are active only at night. During the day they move on big distances rarely. Now Veterinary Service checks the elk on presence of any diseases. Depending on the conclusion, it will be decided how to utilize the lost animal".

He also added that the driver of "Lada Kalina" should not only repair the car at his own expense, but also to pay the penalty of 5000 rubles to the regional Ministry of Agriculture for the damage caused to nature.
