Penza, 22 November 2011. PenzaNews. The driver of car “MAZ” from Mordovia, who knocked down the child at the crossroads of streets Okruzhnaya and Voronova in Penza on November, 18th, was arrested in Penza. The deputy chief of the investigatory department on investigation of the road accident the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in the Penza region Vladimir Harkov informed the news agency PenzaNews about it.

He said: “The driver of the truck is in a pre-trial detention center. Investigation bodies have enough grounds for it. The driver has given evidences, they are recorded”.

According to Vladimir Harkov, the driver of car “MAZ” informed that while he was coming to an adjustable crossroads of Okruzhnaya and Voronova streets there was a forbidding signal of the traffic light for him, thus he saw the pedestrians who moved the sledge with the child out to the roadway, but he didn’t have time to brake.

He said: “As the result of truck arrival on the sledge one-and-a-half-year-old child died on the site”.

Vladimir Harkov added also that the driver of car “MAZ” was sober at the moment of the road accident.

He said: “Physical examination confirmed it”.

The representative of the investigation bodies informed that the criminal case according to part 3 article 264 of the criminal code of Russian Federation “Infringement of traffic regulations and operation of the vehicles, entailed on imprudence death of the person” was initiated.

Vladimir Harkov said: “The fault of the driver of the truck is proved. Roughly, the investigation bodies will have been completed by the end of December. Then the materials will be sent to the court. In case of guilty sentence the driver faces 5 years of imprisonment”.
