Four injured as five cars collide in Penza region

Penza, 15 January 2012. PenzaNews. Four people got injured in a road traffic accident involving five cars which occurred at the 15th kilometer of the Penza-Shemysheyka motorway in the Penza region at about 8:13am Moscow time on Sunday, January 15.

As Head of the press service of the Head Office of the Ministry for Emergencies of the Russian Federation for the Penza region Timofey Nikulin said in a statement to news agency PenzaNews, a collision occurred between five cars VAZ-2121 Niva, Renault Logan, VAZ-2112, VAZ-2120 and VAZ-2109 on a section of the motorway located in a poorly surfaced area with a steep slope.

“In total 23 people were inside the cars. Among them four sustained injuries and were taken to the City Ambulance Clinical Hospital No. 6 named after G.A. Zakharyin in Penza,” said Timofey Nikulin.

He noted that the lives of those injured were not in danger with one person already released from hospital after medical treatment.

“At first seven people were said to be injured according to information from the site of the accident but then the data was corrected with only four people in need of medical assistance,” added the spokesperson.

Reasons and circumstances of the accident are investigated by officials of the State Road Traffic Safety Department.
