Traffic Police officer hit and killed pedestrian in Penza region

Penza, 10 July 2012. PenzaNews. A young man, whose identity has not been yet determined, died after being hit by Lada Priora car which was driven by a Traffic Police officer at the 755th kilometer of the federal road M5 “Ural” in the Kuznetsk region of the Penza region on Monday, July 9.

“The police officer on duty who was sober, wearing uniform and moving from the city of Kuznetsk in the direction of Samara, on an unlit road section hit a man of 25−30 years old who suddenly went out into the roadway from the curb,” the press service of the Office of Interior Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Penza region told news agency “PenzaNews.”

The press service added that the victim died at the Kuznetsk central district hospital after three and a half hours after the collision.

“According to the preliminary version, the accident occurred due to the fault of the pedestrian, who was intoxicated. An inquiry into this incident is being conducted. If the police officer is found guilty, he would be dismissed from the Department of Internal Affairs and the heads of the department, where he serves as a police officer, would be brought to strict disciplinary responsibility,” added the press service.
