Penza, 17 August 2012. PenzaNews. 14.7 kg of drugs including 56.4 grams of heroin, 2.4 kg of poppy straw and 11.1 kg of marijuana were seized from illegal turnover during the first phase of nationwide preventive operation “Mak” (Poppy) which was held in Penza from May 28 to July 25.

“During the operation, 145 crimes connected with drug trafficking were revealed. 51 of them were classified as grave crimes and 80 — as especially grave crimes. In addition, 108 administrative offenses were registered,” the press service of the regional Office of Federal Drug Control Service (FDCS) of Russia told news agency “PenzaNews.”

Moreover, there were revealed five cases of illicit cultivation of narcotic plants on the total area of seven square meters and 10 sites of wild plants with a total area of more than 83 thousand square meters. The weight of the cannabis destroyed was more than 14 tons.

“There were 12 orders sent to heads of agricultural enterprises and citizens to eliminate the conditions conducive to possible illegal actions with narcotic plants,” added the press service.

The second phase of nationwide preventive operation “Mak” was launched on August 1 and runs until October 31.
