Penza, 23 August 2012. PenzaNews. A resident of Shemysheyka, the Penza region, was sentenced to 2.5 years of imprisonment in a penal colony for the use of violence against a government representative.

“The incident occurred on February 22. Traffic police inspectors – Senior Lieutenant Irfan Kerimov and Lieutenant Sergey Bobkov – were involved in the Operation Intercept and looked for a stolen vehicle. They stood by the police car at the intersection of Rabochaya and Magistralnaya Streets checking suspicious vehicles. Soon they noticed Lada 2105 car. The driver violated the rules and tried to escape when the inspector stopped the car,” said the press service of the Office of Interior Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Penza region.

When the Lada stopped by the offender’s house, the driver got out of the car with a wooden bat, struck the patrol car, then ran to the police officer and tried to hit him on the head, causing injuries.

“The Traffic police officer considered the situation life-threatening and fired two shots from the service weapon to protect himself from assault, involving violence,” said the press service.

During the trial, the driver pleaded partially guilty. The sentence came into force.
