Penza, 25 October 2012. PenzaNews. Work to eliminate one kilometer-long illicit dump smoldering in the city in micro-district Zarya completed in Thursday afternoon, October 25.

According to the press service of General Management of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, firefighting crews did washing-down of the territory and buried sawdust in the ground.

“There is no threat to the public,” the department emphasized.

Garbage has been smoldering on the territory of 200 square meters since Monday, October 22. The area was covered with thick smoke. Firefighters had been working there for several days to prevent the fire.

Most of the dump was wooden waste, including sawdust and shavings. The search of people responsible for illicit dumping is still on.
