Imam of Penza mosque suspected of link to Tablighi Jamaat

Penza, 15 November 2012. PenzaNews. According to an anonymous source close to law enforcement authorities, imam of a mosque in village Sradnyaya Elyuzan, the Penza region is suspected of having a link to the international extremist organization Tablighi Jamaat.
“Last Wednesday, the village was visited by a special group, including prosecution officers. They investigated the fact of imam’s involvement with the activities of Tablighi Jamaat. It was found that he was trained in a number of religious institutions of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan,” reported the agency interlocutor.
He also noted that procedural measures may be taken in respect of imam.
Tablighi Jamaat is one of Islamic missionary organization, which has branches in many countries.
In 2009, the Supreme Court of Russia declared the international religious organization of Tablighi Jamaat extremist and banned its activity in the country.
