Illegal sale of weapons prevented in Penza region

Penza, 3 January 2013. PenzaNews. Police officers of Nizhnelomovsky area, the Penza region detained a 35-year-old unemployed resident of Verkhny Lomov, who sold ammunition for a total of one thousand rubles. “Information about a man trying to sell ammunition came to the police in December 2012. Under the guise of buyers, police officers met with the citizen and purchased a pack of cartridges,” the press service of the Interior Ministry of the Russian Federation in the region told news agency “PenzaNews.”

The ministry noted that, according to the experts, these were the cartridges produced in 1954 for the Makarov pistol.

“The detainee explained that he had found bullets in the barn of his household purchased a year ago,” the press service explained.

A criminal case under part 1 Art. 222 of the Criminal Code of Russia was filed on this violation which provides for up to four years in prison.

“The detainee was released under the written pledge not to leave the country. The criminal investigation is ongoing,” added the press service.
