Andrei Kataev: Foreign cars are not popular among Penza hijackers

Penza, 20 February 2013. PenzaNews. Foreign-made cars are not popular with car thieves in the Penza region. This was announced by the head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Penza region Andrei Kataev during a meeting with the journalists on Wednesday, February 20.

“Over 80% of the vehicles stolen in the Penza region in 2012 were manufactured at Togliatti VAZ automobile plant,” he explained.
According to Andrei Kataev, the second favorite vehicles among hijackers are other domestic car brands.
“Foreign cars are rarely stolen in the region,” he noted.
However, Andrei Kataev added that recently there has been an increase in the number of reported cases of illegal appropriation of scooters and motorcycles.
“In 2012, 62 of such vehicles were reported stolen,” commented the head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Penza region.
