Debris clearing continues near shopping center “Suvorovsky” in Penza

Penza, 11 June 2013. PenzaNews. Rescuers continue clearing debris after the collapse of a metal construction of the annex to the shopping center “Suvorovsky” in Penza in order to eliminate the possibility of people buried underneath. This was stated by the acting deputy head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Penza region Alexander Makarov.

He said that the emergency alarm came at around 14.00.
“The emergency group immediately left to the scene. One person was injured. In a state of moderate severity, he was brought to the city hospital named after G. Zakharyin. 16 people were working at the facility at that time, they were immediately evacuated from the territory. At the moment, debris is being cleared out to eliminate the possibility of any victims,” the agency interlocutor said.
According to the correspondent of news agency PenzaNews working at the scene, the shopping center “Suvorovsky” is operating as usually.
According to preliminary information, collapse of the annex construction occurred when the builders were underpouring the second floor. The area of collapse is estimated to be 50 square meters. Presumably, the cause of the incident is the failure to meet safety requirements.
