10-year-old schoolboy beaten by peers in children’s camp dies in Penza

Penza, 18 July 2013. PenzaNews. A 10-year-old schoolboy, who was beaten in a children’s camp in village Nizhnyaya Elyuzan, the Penza region in June, died in the intensive care unit without regaining consciousness on Thursday, July 18.

As the Senior Assistant of the Head of Investigative Department of Investigative Committee in Penza, Media relations division Lyudmila Fomina told news agency “PenzaNews,” the criminal case under Part 1, Art. 111 of the Criminal Code “Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm” filed earlier was reclassified in a criminal case under Part 4, Art. 111 “Deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm, resulting in death of victim.”
“This article provides for imprisonment for up to 15 years,” the agency interlocutor noted.
She added that currently the investigating authorities are establishing the persons involved in this crime.
“In addition, the investigating authorities intend to comment on the actions of camp officials responsible for the safety of children,” Lyudmila Fomina stressed.
As news agency PenzaNews reported earlier, according to preliminary data, on Friday evening, June 28, three boys aged 11–12 took their peer out of the building where a camp dance was on, and beat him, after which the victim was delivered to hospital with a closed head injury.
