Penza police officer suspected of beating detainee

Penza, 19 July 2013. PenzaNews. Investigating authorities filed a criminal case over the incident of violence of the officer of patrol service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Zarechny against a local resident — subsection “a, b” Part 3, Art. 286 of the Criminal Code “Abuse of power with violence and special equipment.”

“According to the investigation, 14 July 2013 at around 21:00, a local resident of Zarechny was detained and delivered to the police station for appearing in public in a state of alcohol intoxication. When the man was in the rest room of the police station, the police officer who accompanied him took advantage of not being seen and hit the detainee with a rubber truncheon several times on the head, torso and extremities,” said the Senior Assistant of the Head of Investigative Department of Investigative Committee in Penza, Media relations division Lyudmila Fomina.

She added that as a result the victim received a bruise of a right brow and bruises on his body.

“Currently, the circumstances of the incident are being investigated,” the agency interlocutor summarized.
