Kamenka citizen to face up to 10 years of imprisonment for picking bushes of hemp

Penza, 21 August 2013. PenzaNews. A sentence of imprisonment for a term of 10 years may be assigned to a 22-year-old resident of Kamenka, the Penza region, who went looking for mushrooms, but decided to pick up the bushes of wild hemp. This was reported by the Acting Chief of the Investigation Dept. of Penza department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Lieutenant-Colonel of Justice Vadim Valov on Wednesday, August 21.
He clarified that the young man was arrested on Sunday, August 18.
“The young man had a black plastic bag filled with the stalks and leaves of the plant with a specific smell. The experts came to the conclusion that this was hemp, the weight of dry substance of which amounted to over 400 grams,” the agency interlocutor said.
Vadim Valov also noted that, according to the detainee, he picked up hemp for personal consumption.
“A criminal case was instituted on the fact of drug trafficking on a large scale,” he concluded.
