18 criminal cases against former deputy head of penal colony No. 1 instituted in Penza

Penza, 16 September 2013. PenzaNews. The number of criminal cases instituted against the former deputy head of Penza colony No. 1 amounted to 18. This was stated by the press secretary of the regional department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia Andrei Popkov on Monday, September 16.

“It was established that the former deputy head of penal colony No. 1 used his position against the interests of the institution and obtained money from the relatives of convicted when deciding on the provision of short-term and long-term visits. Bribes ranged from one thousand to 16 thousand rubles. From September 2011 to February 2013, he received over 120 thousand rubles,” the agency interlocutor said.
He specified that the criminal cases were filed by the Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Penza region, and operational support was carried out by the officers of the inner security of the regional department of Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia.
“So far the former deputy head of the penal colony was sentenced to a preventive measure in the form of detention in pretrial detention center No. 1,” Andrei Popkov added.
