In Penza former police officer to be taken to court for beating detainee

Penza, 17 October 2013. PenzaNews. A former head of the department countering the drug and weapon trafficking activities of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Internal Affairs Ministry of the Russian Federation will go to trial for beating the detainee.

“It was established that on 13 March 2013 the police officer, having met the man, who had been previously convicted of drug consumption, used physical violence hitting him many times on different body parts with the purpose to get information about persons distributing forbidden drugs. Afterwards the accused forced the injured into the service car and got him into the police office, where he continued beating him in the room,” the senior head assistant of the Volga Investigation Department on transport of the Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation Dmitry Zakharov told news agency “PenzaNews.”

He noted that the former police officer is accused of committing a crime under Paragraph “a” Part 3, Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Exceeding official powers.”
