Details of case against imam-hatib Ali Yakupov revealed

Penza, 22 October 2013. PenzaNews. More than 100 witnesses were questioned in the investigation of the criminal case against Ali Yakupov, imam-hatib of the mosque in Srednyaya Elyuzan village of Gorodischensky area in the Penza region. He is accused of public calls for extremism and hatred.

“The persons belonging to the inner circle of imam-hatib were searched, and the literature in Arabic was confiscated,” the Senior Assistant of the Head of the Investigative Department of Investigative Committee in Penza, Media relations division, Lyudmila Fomina told news agency PenzaNews on Tuesday, October 22.

She added that during the investigation comprehensive forensic psychological and psychiatric examination was undertaken, in the results of which the suspect was found sane.

“Currently Ali Yakupov is under house arrest,” said the agency interlocutor.

According to Lyudmila Fomina, the final version of the indictment is planned to be brought to imam-hatib soon.

As news agency PenzaNews reported earlier, imam-hatib of the mosque in Srendyaya Elyuzan village, the Penza region, “Mahhalah No. 44” (jurisdiction of the Council of muftis of Russia), hafiz of the Quran Ali Yakupov was detained on his way to Malaysia, where he was about to participate in the Quran reciters competition.

By officially unconfirmed information, imam called believers for the extermination of the Jews and establishment of the rule of Islam on the land of Palestine.

The criminal case under Part 1 Art. 280 of Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Public Calls for Effectuate Extremist Activity” and under Part 1 Art. 282 of Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Excitement of Enmity and Hatred, and Likewise Demeaning Human Dignity” was initiated against Ali Yakupov.
