Penza, 21 November 2013. PenzaNews. 48 pedestrians were killed and 533 people got injuries of varying severity in the result of accidents occurred in the territory of the Penza region for 10 months of 2013. As the propaganda department of the office of the Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Penza region reported to news agency “PenzaNews,” the number of accidents involving crossing carriageways off crosswalks and disobeying traffic signal control has increased.

“In 18 accidents pedestrians were in sober condition,” the Traffic Police Department added.

The propaganda department explained that the majority of pedestrian accidents accounts for the period from September to November.

“The maximum number of accidents in a week happens on Mondays and Fridays – 16,5% on each day of the total number, and the time of day – in the periods from 16.00 to 18.00 and from 20.00 to 22.00,” the Traffic Police Department added.

The office also said that different events are regularly organized to prevent accidents in the Penza region.

“For instance, in the period from 25 to 30 November there will be organized the operation “Pedestrian,” which would draw people’s attention to the need to respect the road rules,” the propaganda department added.
