“The Leninsky district court satisfied the motion of the chief investigator of the Investigative Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia,” the press service of the Administration of Justice Department in the Penza region told news agency PenzaNews on Tuesday, December 3.

A day earlier, the court stated that there was no such request received.

As news agency PenzaNews reported earlier, the head of city housing and communal services of Penza Alexei Agafilov is accused of committing fraud on a large scale, in particular, manipulations with the land plot, which was municipal property. A criminal case was initiated against him under Part 4 Art.159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud.”

On 1 August 2013, the chief investigator of the Investigative Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Penza region appealed to the Leninsky district court of Penza with a request to change the preventive measure in the form of travel ban and good conduct of Alexei Agafilov to his detention. Taking into consideration personal characteristics of the accused – never convicted, positively characterized at the place of residence, having a permanent place of work, and maintaining three children – the court changed restraint to house arrest until 1 October with a number of prohibitions.

Later, the term of house arrest was extended for two months – until December 1.
