Sentence pronounced on case of fraud connected with documenting car accident in Penza

Penza, 21 January 2014. PenzaNews. A former Penza Traffic Police Department inspector and a driver of “Mitsubishi Lancer” were pronounced guilty of bribing. The driver, being responsible for an accident, bribed the police inspector for reporting false information about the circumstances of the accident.

“The investigation found that in January 2013 at the intersection of federal highway M5 “Ural” and Prospekt Pobedy Street in Penza, an accident involving “Mitsubishi Lancer” and “VAZ-21093” occurred. The driver of the former was responsible for the accident due to the fact that he did not give way to another vehicle at inoperative traffic lights. The police inspector who arrived at the site offered the driver to present other circumstances of the accident in the report, indicating that the traffic lights were operable, and therefore the traffic rules were violated by the driver of “VAZ,” the Senior Assistant of the Head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Penza, Media relations, Lyudmila Fomina told news agency “PenzaNews.”

She noted that the inspector received five thousand rubles for filing false report.

“Subsequently, the offender illegally received insurance benefits. As a result of the criminal actions the insurance company suffered financial damage of 30 thousand rubles,” the agency interlocutor explained.

Lyudmila Fomina added that the former traffic police officer was sentenced to one year of imprisonment in a penal colony.

“In addition, he is deprived of the right to hold positions in the department of internal affairs for a period of 2 years. The driver was sentenced to a fine of 30 thousand rubles. The sentence has not entered into force yet and may be appealed within the statutory period,” she concluded.
