Associate professor Irina Ivashchenko sentenced for fine of 480 thousand rubles for bribery

Penza, 3 February 2014. PenzaNews. Pervomaysky district court of Penza found the associate professor of English faculty of Penza State University Irina Ivashchenko guilty of five cases of actual receiving a bribe and one case of attempting to get a bribe.

The associate professor was sentenced to a fine of 480 thousand rubles with disqualification from the faculty for a period of three years.

“The accused associate professor invited a student to her apartment during his examination period, where she demanded a bribe of one thousand rubles. The student agreed to the terms of the academic, after which she gave him a satisfactory mark without actually testing student’s knowledge. The associate professor received for more bribes following the same scheme,” the representative of Pervomaysky district court of Penza told news agency “PenzaNews.”

He noted that in the future the amount of required bribes increased up to two thousand rubles for a satisfactory mark at a general test, and three thousand rubles for passing an exam.

“The associate professor was arrested by the police when receiving a bribe for the sixth time. During the search, the bribe received from the student was seized,” the agency interlocutor pointed out.

He also clarified that the accused fully admitted her guilt.

“When imposing the sentence, the court took into consideration this fact, as well as positive characteristics of the academic and active assistance in solving the crimes. The decision of the court has not entered into force yet and may be appealed within the statutory period,” the agency interlocutor noted.
