“According to the investigation, at night, on December 18, 2013 the woman, while in the apartment of her parents, gave birth to a viable boy and flipped him onto his stomach face down on the bed to cover his breathing passage. She made sure that the child shows no signs of life, wrapped the baby in a cloth, and left the body in the corridor. Due to poor health of the woman, her relatives called an ambulance, which found the child's body,” the Senior Assistant of the Head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Penza, Media relations, Lyudmila Fomina told news agency “PenzaNews.”
She said that the cause of infant’s death was mechanical asphyxia.
“The motive for the crime committed was woman’s reluctance to maintain a third child since she has no husband and is experiencing financial difficulties,” the agency interlocutor said.
Lyudmila Fomina also noted that in 2011 the defendant was convicted of a similar offense.
“After she gave birth at home, the woman left the baby in the barn. Only the vigilance of relatives, who discovered the newborn and immediately organized qualified medical care, the boy was saved,” she explained.
