Rapist from Orenburg determined based on genotype to stand trial in Penza

Penza, 26 March 2014. PenzaNews. A 38-year-old resident of Orenburg to stand trial on charges of rape and sexual assault against a 24-year-old resident of Penza.

The crime was committed in the forest in Oktyabrsky district of Penza not far from the federal highway M5 “Ural.”

During the crime scene investigation, they found traces of biological intruder based on which genotype was recovered and put in DNA records.

The case was open for over a year, but as a result of systematic and painstaking work inspecting all people who had previously come to the attention of law enforcement agencies on suspicion of committing crimes against sexual freedom and integrity, they found and detained a 38-year-old resident of Orenburg. His genomic code coincided with the code they searched for.

“The investigators found that in early August 2012, a 24-year-old girl was walking along a path in the forest towards Arbekovo district. At this point, she was attacked by the man with a knife, committed sexual abuse against her and stole 40 rubles, then he escaped. The girl's statement was confirmed by the witnesses and the detainee,” the Senior Assistant of the Head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Penza, Media relations, Lyudmila Fomina told news agency “PenzaNews.”

She also clarified that the defendant came to Penza from Moscow to find a job in summer 2012, but after committing the crime he reurned to Orenburg.
