“He was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a penal colony and the deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for 2 years,” the official representative of Pervomaysky district court of Penza told news agency PenzaNews on Monday, April 7.

According to the representative, when having detected danger, the driver failed to take measures to reduce the speed to a stop and began to maneuver.

“He lost control of the car and collapsed from the bridge on the ice surface of the river,” the agency interlocutor commented.

The court representative reminded that two men who were inside the car died on the spot.

“The driver did not plead guilty. When imposing the sentence, the court took into account the nature and degree of social danger of the offense, the severity of consequences, as well as the identity of the driver, who had no criminal record in the past. At the time of the accident his driving experience was less than one year,” the agency interlocutor said.

The sentence has not entered into force yet and may be appealed within the statutory period.
