Doctor to stand trial for death of patient at hospital gates in Penza region

Penza, 8 April 2014. PenzaNews. A 48-year-old general practitioner of suburban outpatient department of the central area hospital in Serdobsk, the Penza region is to stand trial for the death of a patient.

The man was charged with committing an offense under Part 2, Art. 109 of the Criminal Code “Causing death by negligence.”

“According to the investigators, on 22 August 2013 at around 23.00, while in his office, the accused being the attendant practitioner, did not fulfill the required complex of medical activities to identify the disease of a 38-year-old patient. He misdiagnozed the desease and determined the wrong method of treatment, did not hospitalize the man. Due to the lack of proper medical care, the patient died at the gate of the hospital of acute coronary insufficiency, which was the cause of the acute form of coronary heart disease,” the Senior Assistant of the Head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Penza, Media relations, Lyudmila Fomina told news agency on Tuesday, April 8.

She explained that in addition to numerous interrogations, recesses and document researches, and other investigative measures, a number of long complex medical examinations have been carried out, which made it possible to obtain the necessary evidence underlying the charges brought against the doctor.
