Mentally unstable university professor convicted of rape in Penza

Penza, 23 June 2014. PenzaNews. Penza court found a 30-year-old native of Samara guilty of rape and sentenced the man to compulsory treatment in a specialized psychiatric hospital with intensive supervision.

As the Senior Assistant of the Head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Penza, Media relations, Lyudmila Fomina told news agency “PenzaNews,” a criminal case on the fact rape of a 19-year-old girl instituted in 2009.

“The student was walking to college along the path in the forest in Zapadnaya Polyana, when she was attacked by an unknown person, using violence and threatening with a knife, the man committed sexual abuse against the girl, and then disappeared. During the crime scene investigation, they found traces of biological intruder, from which his genotype was extracted and put on DNA record,” the agency interlocutor said.

More than three years the crime remained unsolved, but as a result of systematic work and verification of all persons previously come to the attention of law enforcement agencies on suspicion of committing crimes against sexual freedom and integrity, the man, born in Samara in 1984, who was undergoing treatment in a psychiatric hospital, was found.

“In the course of a criminal investigation, it was found that the man at the time of commission of the offense was a professor of Samara State University of Railways and came to Penza for defending his doctoral dissertation. Also in 2011 he was declared insane for committing a series of attacks on women and underage girls in Samara, some victims were stalked and raped right outside the educational establishment,” Lyudmila Fomina said.

According to her, in view of the established mental illness of the man, the court released the man from criminal responsibility and put him under compulsory medical treatment in a specialized psychiatric hospital with intensive supervision.
