“It has been established that in 2013, the culprit learned from his acquaintance that she was afraid of being imprisoned, while he was serving his sentence for a previously committed crime in one of the Penza regions penitentiary institutions. After his release in 2014, the man decided to exploit this information to obtain money from the woman, and offered to help her avoid the sentence for 500,000 rubles as a reward. He told her the money will be used to bribe the police authorities who will be deciding on the verdict,” the press service of the Penza region FSS department told PenzaNews agency.

According to the officials, at a certain period of time the culprit convinced his acquaintance the police has the evidence to sentence her.

“Fearing for herself, she agreed and gave him a half of the discussed sum of money. However, the fraudster had no time to use the money, since he was immediately apprehended by FSS officers when the money changed hands. The Leninsky area court found the man guilty of attempted large-scale fraud, and sentenced hum to 58 months in high-security penal settlement. The sentence has taken effect,” said the press service representative.
