“In his own words, a pop-up password entry window appeared on his screen when he tried to log in to Sberbank-Online. A few minutes later, an unknown person from caller number ‘900’ called him and introduced himself as a bank operator. The person told the victim that a website suffered a glitch, and regaining access to it requires a code that he will receive via SMS. Following the person’s instructions, the victim tried to input the code three times but all for nothing,” the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs commented to PenzaNews on Friday, December 5.

According to officials, the client was able to log in later on the same day.

“He found out that 100,000 rubles were transferred from his own account to his debit card, and later on to an unidentified account,” the press service added.

The authorities are investigating the scam.

“Police officers are locating the offenders,” stressed the MIA Penza region department.
