Penza, 9 December 2014. PenzaNews. A police officer prevented a suicide attempt on the Kuznetsk train station in the Penza region.

“A patrol guard policeman noticed an excited man holding a kitchen knife to his own throat in the ticket office. When the officer asked the man to put down the knife, the latter yelled at him. Passengers and train station staff were immediately evacuated from the premises, and the police placed the area under lockdown and began negotiations with the persons trying to talk him out of committing suicide. The man did not react and shouted inane statements. However, all of a sudden he cut a vein on his neck,” the press service of the MIA transportation department for the Volga Federal District told PenzaNews agency.

The man was immediately disarmed by the police, but tried to fight them off in order to escape medical assistance.

“Officers and medical workers managed to treat the man, and he was admitted to the city hospital. His identity is established – he is a 27-year old citizen of Tolyatti,” the press service said.

According to the police, the information on the incident was directed to investigators.
