Penza fraudsters stole 50 thousand off woman in “pay off the arrest” scam

Penza, 22 February 2015. PenzaNews. Phone fraudsters have stolen 50,000 rubles off a Penza citizen, 54, who caught on a lure trying to save her son from prison.

“According to the woman, an unknown person called her mobile phone and introduced himself as a police officer, saying her son was arrested and money is required to free him. Following the unknown person’s instructions, the woman transferred a total of 50,000 rubles to three mobile phone accounts and tore up the payment checks,” the press service of the regional police department informed PenzaNews agency.

According to the officials, the victim of the fraud told the police she knew of such fraud schemes, but still fell for it.

“We are investigating the case in order to identify the culprits,” said the police.
