Two Penza region residents to pay nearly 100 thousand rubles for 12 felled trees

Penza, 6 March 2015. PenzaNews. Two residents of Luninsky area of the Penza region were convicted of cutting down 12 trees in railway windbreaker zone.
“On September 6, 2014, the men cut down several ash, maple and birch trees growing in the windbreak zone near the Kuibyshev Railway, intending to convert them into firewood and sell them. They moved and left the trees by the private house of one of the wrongdoers. However, the men were detained by the law enforcement agencies before they could have sold the illegal timber,” Maya Ivanova, Senior Assistant to the Transportation Prosecutor in the Volga Federal District for media and public relations, informed PenzaNews agency.
The court sentenced the convicts to 18 months of imprisonment with 2 years of probation, she clarified.
“In addition, the convicts will pay a joint fine of 94,000 rubles in favor of JSC ‘Russian Railways’ for property damage,” the agency interlocutor added.
