WWII-era mortar shell found on Penza construction site

Penza, 21 April 2015. PenzaNews. The builders have found a WWII-era 82-mm BM-37 mortar shell while working at the construction site on Izmaylova street in Penza on Tuesday, April 21.

The police dispatch received the report about the discovery at 8.30 am, the senior investigator of the Interior Ministry branch No. 1 of the Penza city Alexei Alexeev informed PenzaNews agency.
“The police immediately corded off the construction site and evacuated the workers. A police dog unit and Special Police Force bomb disposal experts investigated the shell,” said the speaker.
The shell was found to be unable to explode, he added.
“It is an inert shell for a 82-mm mortar that with no explosives or primer. It poses no danger,” the senior investigator stressed.
The mortar shell was seized and sent for analysis, Alexei Alexeev added.
