Penza, 23 April 2015. PenzaNews. Pavel Khanbekov, resident of the Luninsky area of the Penza region who had been arrested by the FSB officials near the Zarechny city entry point while receiving a bribe for helping avoid real sentence, will spent 2.5 years in a penal colony.
“The investigators found that last September, Pavel Khanbekov learned his acquaintance was arrested for drug trafficking. Having no real influence on the relevant officials, he still claimed he had relatives in the Penza region law enforcement, and a way to help the arrested person avoid prison sentence. Pavel Khanbekov demanded 1,200,000 rubles for his services that he allegedly had to give away to the involved law enforcement workers,” the press secretary of the Penza region court Natalya Bychenkova told PenzaNews agency.
The man was detained on October 7 immediately after receiving the money, she added.
“The accused fully confessed to the crime,” the speaker noted.
According to her, the Zarechny city court found Pavel Khanbekov guilty of attempting a large-scale fraud and sentenced him to 2.5 years of imprisonment on March 6, 2015.
“Refusing to agree to the sentence, the offender’s attorney appealed the prison term, but it was left unturned by the Judge Collegiate on Criminal Cases of the Penza region court. The sentence came into force,” Natalya Bychenkova said.
