Phone scammer cheated Penza elderly woman out of over 1 million rubles

Penza, 31 May 2015. PenzaNews. A Penza woman resident, 62, was scammed out of 1 million 152 thousand rubles.

“According to the woman, an unknown person called her house phone, introduced himself as a teller of a well-known bank’s central office, and said she is eligible for money compensation on all the medicine she bought, available after a money transit,” the press service of the Penza region Ministry of the Interior department informed PenzaNews agency.
The elderly woman wired the scammers the money they asked for in two weeks, they added.
“The woman told the police she knew about such scam schemes,” the press service pointed out.
A check is currently underway, the department noted.
“The police are identifying the criminals. The phone number used by the scammer was registered in a different city,” the police said.
