The police have opened a criminal case under Part 5, Art. 264 of the Criminal Code, “Violation of Traffic Rules and Rules for Operation of Transport Vehicles,” after a traffic accident on the 514th kilometer of the Saratov – Nizhny Novgorod highway by Mayskoe village of the Malaya Serdoba area in the Penza region. The crash took place on Sunday, August 3.

A Hyundai Solaris with a Saratov-issued license plate rammed head-first into a MAZ-5432 from Nizhny Novgorod, the press service of the regional Ministry of the Interior department informed PenzaNews agency.

“According to preliminary theory, the driver of the smaller car, born in 1975, caught the road curb with his wheel, lost control of the car, crossed into the opposite traffic lane and rammed the truck driven by a man born in 1978,” they said.

As a result, the driver of Hyundai Solaris and four passengers of the car, including a child, died at the scene, the department continued.

“The driver of the truck and another passenger of Hyundai were hospitalized to the Petrovsk city hospital in the Saratov region with varying injuries,” the police clarified.

This case took place shortly after another traffic accident involving a Toyota. Based on information available, the inspectors were unable to establish the car brand quickly as it lit on fire after colliding with a heavyweight transport vehicle.
