Penza, 11 November 2015. PenzaNews. An elderly Penza resident, 74, lost 50,000 rubles to phone scammers.

“According to the woman, she received a call on her mobile phone. An unknown person with a voice that resembled her son’s said he got in a traffic accident and needs 150,000 rubles to get out of jail,” the press service of the Penza region Ministry of the Interior told PenzaNews agency.

According to them, shortly afterwards the elderly woman abided by the request and gave away a portion of the requested sum to an unknown young woman who came by her apartment entry.

“Shortly after, she realized that had been a scam, and addressed the police,” the press service said.

A criminal case was initiated on the fraud, the Ministry of the Interior department elaborated.
