Penza, 30 July 2016. PenzaNews. The police are conducting a pre-investigation check after an AS-4 glider plane piloted by a 65-year-old pilot crashed at the Sosnovka village airfield in the Bessonovka area of the Penza region on Saturday, July 30, with the pilot not surviving the incident.

“After arriving to the airfield, investigators discovered mangled remains of the glider plane, with the pilot’s body lying next to it,” Lyudmila Fomina, Senior Assistant of the Head of the Investigative Department of the city Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, told PenzaNews.

Reportedly, the tragic incident occurred during the first flight of a brand-new glider plane by an experienced air pilot who had received numerous state decorations, she added.

“The pilot took off from the airfield and reached the altitude of 800 m before the crash caused by yet unknown reasons. The man died at the scene from sustained injuries,” she added.

According to her, the police are currently taking all measures to establish the full picture of the tragic incident.
