A man, born 1958, died in a fire that occurred in the apartment of a single-storey wooden house on 1 st Okruzhnoy Proezd in Penza on Friday, September 30, Anna Shupilova, head of information and public relations division of the main EMERCOM department in the Penza region, informed PenzaNews.

“The emergency call was received at 8.36. Five pieces of equipment and 17 people were sent to the scene. They worked well and quickly. It was possible to avoid the fire spreading over a large area — the house is old, so it could burn up like match,” the agency interlocutor explained.

She said that the house had only six apartments.

“The area under the fire is 70 square meters,” the agency interlocutor added.

According to Anna Shupilova, the preliminary cause of the fire was careless smoking.
