Penza, 6 June 2017. PenzaNews. A driver of a garbage car was sentenced to 2.5 years of imprisonment in a penal colony settlement with suspension of driving license for the same term because of a tragic traffic accident in Prospekt Stroiteley street in Penza, in which three people died and one person was seriously injured.

"In 2016 the man worked as a driver in the LLC 'Department of improvement and cleaning of the Penza city'. Driving a garbage truck on November 6, at around 5.00, he was getting from 1st Onezhsky Proezh street to an inner lane of Prospekt Stroiteley street and ran into a Volkswagen Passat car, which was driving along the street at a high speed," the senior assistant of the head of the regional prosecutor for media relations Svetlana Artamonova told PenzaNews.

According to her, a 26-year-old passenger of the foreign car died from injuries in hospital on the same day, another woman, aged 28, died after almost a month in a coma.

"A 25-year-old driver of the passenger car died of acute respiratory failure in February 2017 after a number of operations. A 33-year-old passenger was severely injured," the interlocutor added.

Svetlana Artamonova noted that the person responsible for the traffic accident partially compensated moral damage to the victims.

"The civil claims for compensation of moral damage totalling 2.5 million rubles including the moneys voluntarily compensated by the defendant to each of the victims were partially satisfied by the court – in the amount of 1 million rubles. It was decided to exact this amount of money from the LLC ‘Department of improvement and cleaning of the Penza city’, an employer of the person responsible for the accident," the senior assistant of the head of the regional prosecutor specified.

She added that the sentence did not come into effect yet.
