Penza governor urges local authorities to analyze accidents’ causes

Penza, 18 July 2017. PenzaNews. The heads of municipalities of the Penza region should together with traffic police officers analyze the causes of accidents occurred and take measures to prevent them in the most problematic areas. This opinion was expressed by the governor Ivan Belozertsev.

“The task of the local authorities is not only to repair roads but also to see dangerous spaces. We must fight against people’s deaths together,” he said during an unscheduled meeting of the road safety commission held on Tuesday, July 18.

As the press service of the government of the Penza region reports, in the six months of 2017 in the region there were registered 772 road accidents, in the result of which 84 people died and over 1 thousand people got injuries of varying degrees of gravity.

93% of accidents occurred because of traffic violations, including overtaking rules, 13% - drunk driving.

According to the head of the Penza region traffic police department Alexander Kurchatov, unsatisfied road conditions accompanied 67% of the car accidents recorded since the beginning of 2017. Among the main claims are unclear horizontal markings or their absence, insufficient lighting, lack of pedestrian crossings, road signs and barriers.
