Investigators to find out who infected teenager with HIV in Penza region

Penza, 21 August 2017. PenzaNews. A pre-trial investigation was organized on the fact of infecting a 17-year-old girl who lives in Kuznetsk area of the Penza region with HIV infection as a result of a sexual contact.

As the press service of the regional investigative directorate under the Investigative Committee of Russia told PenzaNews, the basis for the investigation was information spread by the mass media with a reference to Rosponrebnadzor.

"Within the investigation, all circumstances of infecting a minor girl with HIV as well as reasons and conditions that contributed to this will be established," the department explained.

As it was reported before, altogether 230 cases of infecting with HIV were registered in the Penza region in six months. 220 of them were registered among permanent residents of the region.

The incidence rate amounted to 16.4 per 100,000 population, which is 3.1% higher than that of the first half of 2016.

According to a Rospotrebnadzor regional department, two cases of infecting children under the age of one and transmission of the virus to a 17-year-old girl as a result of a sexual contact were registered over six months.
